Progetto Sperimentale “Chiama il Bus” – Experimental Project “Chiama il Bus”

Liguria, italy
smart mobility

The innovative 'on-call' service project “Chiama il Bus” for the Recco hilly areas was activated from 26 March 2018, based on an agreement between ATP Esercizio and Comune di Recco. The basic idea is to give the possibility to book the service based on the real needs of the users, replacing the fixed journeys on low demand routes (hamlets and hilly areas), where the risk is higher that the vehicles in some journeys even travel empty. The localities served are Cotulo, Carbonara, Verzemma, Liceto, Collodari and Ageno (until today served by local lines 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7). The "Call the Bus" service is active from Monday on Saturdays, the service hours from 7 to 19 and the transport system is based on the telephone booking that can be made from 7 to 12 on the same day and from 14 to 16 to book the same day or morning bus the next day . The user can call a toll-free number (800.688329) and must communicate his name, origin and destination of the trip and mobile number to be called back in case of service modification. The bus that provides the service is equipped for the transport of disabled people. As for the tariff system, holders of free circulation season tickets, multi-journey carnets and ordinary tickets can access the service; no supplements are applied to the normal ticket. Tickets purchased on board have a cost of 3 euros for rate A (4 zones). After the experimentation the service was also confirmed for the winter times with the addition of the Recco hospital as a point of origin / destination.

In the first days of activation in Recco, 295 people traveled by bus in 10 days. Compared to the traditional system, there was an increase of around 15% in users and a significant reduction in costs.

Svečina – srce med vinogradi in gastronomska odličnost

Podravje, slovenia
smart governance, smart people

Pri vzpostavitvi modela pametnih vasi smo v Svečini izbrali ob celotnem območju občine Kungota ključna 3 področja:
- povezovanje ponudnikov

Key conditions for success

Key steps for activity implementation

- prenos znanja in medgeneracijsko osveščanje - podpora lokalne skupnosti - podpora podpornega okolja - trajnostna naravnanost

Difficulties encountered/ lessons learned

Drava Bike Trail

Styria – Štajerska, slovenia
smart economy

In 2015, 18 municipalities along the river Drava, i.e. Dravograd, Muta, Vuzenica, Radlje ob Dravi, Podvelka, Lovrenc na Pohorju, Selnica ob Dravi, Ruše, Municipality of Maribor, Duplek, Miklavž na Dravskem polju, Starše, Hajdina, Municipality of Ptuj, Markovci, Gorišnica, Ormož, Središče ob Dravi, 3 development agencies (RRA Koroška d.o.o., Maribor Development Agency p.o., Scientific Research Centre Bistra Ptuj), and the Maribor – Pohorje Tourist Board signed the Agreement on the support of a project proposal – SPATIAL SITING AND MANAGEMENT/COORDINATION OF PROCEDURES FOR DEVELOPMENT/CONSTRUCTION OF THE DRAVA CYCLING ROUTE BETWEEN DRAVOGRAD AND SREDIŠČE OB DRAVI AS PART OF THE DRAVA BASIN SUSTAINABLE MANAGEMENT PROJECT. The project leader is RRA Koroška, which manages the procedures for siting and constructing the Drava Cycling Route (DCR) in 18 municipalities, and coordinates activities with the Slovenian Infrastructure Agency. The project workgroup considered the establishment of the Partnership for the Drava Cycling Route as a reasonable continuation of the project. The purpose of the partnership is primarily a better integration of 18 municipalities along the river Drava in project execution, better cooperation with other stakeholders (e.g. service providers), and a stronger and more unified interaction with national authorities associated with the project. The partnership was established in June 2016, with partnership president Leo Kremžar. At the 2nd Meeting of the Partnership for the Drava Cycling Route, held in November 2016, Maribor – Pohorje Tourist Board presented to all municipalities a proposal for a website, visual identity, maps, the process for including providers, and promotion. These activities represent an upgrade to the marking of the Drava Cycling Route and the basis for subsequent marketing. The new website www.dravabike.si allows equivalent cooperation with the Austrian side. Maribor – Pohorje Tourist Board is the lead partner for marketing and promotion of the Drava Cycling Route. The municipalities participating in the Partnership for the Drava Cycling Route and the Slovenian Infrastructure Agency finance certain promotion-related activities. At the end of 2017, the Drava Cycling Route is fully marked with new signposts in its entire length of 145 km between the border crossings Vič pri Dravogradu and Središče ob Dravi. The route is marked with information boards in accordance with the new Rules on traffic signs and equipment on roads. The boards are red and include the Drava Cycling Route logo of all four countries. The costs of information board purchase and replacement were covered by the Slovenian Infrastructure Agency.

The Drava bike trail is a very successful Trail that is very well known in Austria, Slovenia and it is expanding to Croatia as well. More and more tourists, not only cyclists are using the cycling trail of Drava Bike to enjoy the natural beauty along the river Drava.

Implementation

Key conditions for success

A very successful route in Austria - Drava Cycling Route in Carinthia is a very popular long distance-cycling route. ADFC (German Cyclist’s Association), the most important international organisation for classification of cycling routes, marked the Drava Cycling Route in Austria with five stars, the highest possible grade for an individual route in Europe, making this route one of only four cycling routes in Europe with the highest grade. The establishment of the Partnership for the Drava Cycling Route in Slovenia is the first such a cooperation and the best practise in developing the long distance routes (developing the infrastructure & tourist product at the same time). Slovenian Infrastructure Agency will use this model in developing also other long distance routes in Slovenia.

Key steps for activity implementation

The purpose of the partnership is primarily a better integration of 18 municipalities along the river Drava in project execution, better cooperation with other stakeholders (e.g. service providers), and a stronger and more unified interaction with national authorities associated with the project. Our goal is to build such a good infrastructure and connect all possible providers along the ways that also Slovenian part of the Drava Bike route will get the 5 stars according ADFC classification. More info: https://dravabike.si/en/gradimo-za-vas. In the meantime we also work strongly on common marketing with Austrian and Croatian partners (right now we are preparing a new common image folder of all 510 km together). We also try to connect the route until Osijek. And we are not only working on the Drava Bike route but also on new products along the river Drava, Drava Festival (which connects all event along the river Drava, www.dravafestivals.si) and Drava splash (which offers water, adventure and thematic tourist programmes, www.dravasplash.si).

Difficulties encountered/ lessons learned

The Drava Bike Route did ’’exist’’ in Slovenia for more than 15 years, but was never really managed as one route. As long, we did not start to develop the route after cycling standards for long distance routes, build the route and really connecting the whole route, we were not successful. So we created a really good model for cooperation that can be used in all other areas. But there is still among all the institutions, financial resources, very important to have a good human resources, which are fully devoted to develop a route and a tourist product. In November 2018 we did organize an event where we did show our model to all municipalities and regions in Croatia which are along the river Drava to copy it and start to build the route also in Croatia. To develop a partnership as ours and work out the route until Osijek. Some of the tourist providers are already very aware about the importance of cycling tourism but not all of them and not all are at the same level. So we need to teach them about cycling tourism, what are the needs of cyclists, marketing, etc.

Additional information

More about the sections and the tourist providers (tourist farms, accommodation, maps, weather, bike rentals, other services etc ) you can find at https://dravabike.si/en/ and www.dravabike.org.

Resources needed

Human resources (very important is to have a coordinator for infrastructure and coordinator for developing the tourist product and marketing), infrastructure costs (cooperation with local, regional and national institutions, especially with Slovenian Infrastructure Agency and municipalities to join the project (support of mayors in Partnership for the Drava cycling route), marketing costs, common EU project cooperation.

Maribor Wine Road

Styria - Štajerska, slovenia
smart economy

This tour is only one of many tours that integrate different service providers (from transportation service to culinary experience, historical sights, etc...) on our platform where tourist can find and buy integral tourist packages,

The service providers on the wine road have been trying for the past decade to promote their product and be as successful as our neighbours over the border. As we successfully manage to put the providers together in multiple integral tourist packages, one of those had become most popular tour for the tourists. It is a top-ranking tourist offer because it consists of several various services.
Applicable in rural, non city areas
Local region
Youth, Elderly, Students, Active working people
from 2017 - ongoing

Implementation

Key conditions for success

It is very important for each partner in the package to deliver the experience that they are promising. It is also very important to include only the partners (suppliers) that will be able to execute their offer at all times as defined in the programme (e.q - available from Tue - Sun) Usually, this means it will only work with partners who employ more than one person or have a good substitute for replacement.

Key steps for activity implementation

Preparation of an offer that is attractive to tourists Contacting future partners (suppliers) Negotiation terms and conditions of cooperation Execution of a trial wine tour Promotion of a wine tour on website and elsewhere

Difficulties encountered/ lessons learned

The biggest challenge are the people who are involved, that means it is necessary to deliver constant level of service. It is also important to have a substitute for venues or sights in case something goes wrong / floods, etc. It is important to inform the tourists or buyers of any changes of the programme in advance, before they book or buy a wine tour. Constant control of the level of service provided,...etc.

Resources needed

human resources needed, advertising costs, legal advices for the partners contracts

KULTNATURA

Pomurje, slovenia
smart living

KULTNATURA is a brand developed within the project ZELENO ŽELIMO, implemented within the Interreg cross-border programme of Slovenia-Croatia. 10 partners are implementing the project where 5 have touristic background, 2 are supporting organizations dealing with connecting the offer of the hinterland and doing the education, 1 is technology oriented providing new solutions and technologies for modern tourism and 2 are municipalities (local public authorities). The brand is connecting 4 different type of offer from both sides of the border; 1) Culinary, 2) wine, 3) Nature and movement, 4) handcrafts. There are more than 50 providers included in the brand, which are presented on the website of the project and also in the mobile application.

Kultnatura is a brand which is connecting two regions into one touristic product. It is a cross-border area which has many different small (usually family owned) farms and tourist attractions. That offer of the rural area is connected through help of the common brand and is being promoted with help of digital activities (webpage, mobile application, social media,...)
Applicable in rural, non city areas
Village
Youth, Elderly, Students, Active working people
September 2017 - ongoing

Implementation

Key conditions for success

Key conditions are in providing the traditional and authentic charm of the area with new modern approaches. The whole territory is known for warm hospitallity and great food, so the tourist is feel like at home. The important fact is to give the toursit an offer that he will stay in the region (area) for longer time, meaning that everyone in the area will benefit from it (hotels, restaurants, touristic areas, herritages,...). The success is to have new modern approaches so that tourist are able to find the offer online and over modern technologies.

Key steps for activity implementation

Key steps are connected with making a common brand, meaning that tourist feels the same and is treated the same everywhere he goes. This is done by implementing set of activities, from visual apperance to set of rules which are followed by everyone. All this is done through education and workshop. Another important aspect is also to promote the brand and area over modern technologies (mobile, web, social media).

Difficulties encountered/ lessons learned

Main difficulties are connected on how to teach the providers to start using also modern approaches. Especially to old traditional toursim providers, new modern technologies represent an issue and burden. Within the project we devoted time to them in order to present them the ways on how to easily use modern approaches and how to be digitally connected.

Resources needed

Main resources needed are in form of people working with providers to have them all connected under one umbrella (brand KULTNATURA). Building their knowledge and creating a common approach to the tourist. On other hand also some small investments were done on some specific areas in order to accpet the tourists and give them warm hospitality in the area.

Applicable in rural, non city areas
Local region
Youth, Elderly, Students, Active working people
december 2017 - ongoing

Implementation

Key conditions for success

Key conditions for success is getting as closer to the target group (farmers, farmer associations and food producers) in order to help them realize that digitalization can help them speed up the process and bring them positive things (more production, less resources, economic advantage,...). On other hand digitalization is also multi-actor approach, where the main point is not only technology but also social aspect of people having to deal with new environment.

Key steps for activity implementation

Key steps for activity implementation are connected to the living lab environment, where different solutions shuold be implemented on the ground so that farmers could see and feel how digitalization is done. On other hand also financing and funding needs to be acquired in order to help speed up the process of introduction of new technologies.

Difficulties encountered/ lessons learned

Lessons learned: Farmers are still very traditional, which means that it is hard to convince them to start implementing new technologies. This is why living lab approach (real case implementation) is very important that farmers can touch and try out the technology.

Resources needed

To be able to fully implement the DIH AGRIFOOD and its core activities the main resources needed are in form of people. Human resources are the one implementing all activities on the ground, with help of co-financing or financing from the EU.
